Duryea and his brother Frank created the first gasoline commercial automobile. In doing so they founded the company Duryea Motor Wagon Company in 1896. They were the first company to manufacture and sell gasoline powered automobiles. By 1896 thirteen cars of the model were sold. Frank the inventor of the car entered it in a race in Chicago. He won the race in 10hrs going at an average speed of 7.3 mph. The first accident ever recorded was in a Duryea and was in May. A buyer of this wagon hit a byciclist and broke the bikers legs and spent a night in jail. Automobiles can be very dangerous but without them we wouldnt be able to travel or get from place to place faster. Two years later the brothers left the company which broke the company up. Charles was given all the credit for the creation and making of these cars but really Frank was the maker of these cars. With this car being sold it gave the public a better way of transportation and also other engineers a better understanding on how these vehicles work by taking them apart. This was the big push of the automotive industry.
